Three day later Fireman Bob picked up Billy, dreed him in hi fire uniform and ecorted him from hi hopital bed to the waiting hook and ladder truck.Billy got to it on the back of the truck and help teer it back to the fire tation. He wa in heaven. There were three fire call in Phoenix that day and Billy got to go out on all three call. He rode in the different fire engine, the paramedic‘ van and even the fire chief‘ car. Having hi dream come true, with all the love and attention that wa lavihed upon him, o deeply touched Billy that he lived three month longer than any doctor thought poible.One night all of hi vital ign began to drop dramatically and the head nure, who believed in the hopice concept that no one hould die alone, began to call the family member to the hopital. Then he remembered the day Billy had pent a a fireman, o he called the fire chief and aked if it would be poible to end a fireman in uniform to the hopital to be with Billy a he made hi tranition. The chief replied, " We can do better than that. We‘ll be there in five minute. Will you pleae do me a favor?
When you hear the iren creaming and ee the light flahing, will you announce over the PA ytem that there i not a fire? It‘ jut the fire department coming to ee one of it‘ finet member one more time. Thank."About five minute later a hook and ladder truck arrived at the hopital, extended it ladder up to Billy‘ third floor open window and 16 firefighter climbed up the ladder into Billy‘ room. With hi mother‘ permiion, they hugged him and held him and told him how much they loved him. With hi dying breath, Billy looked up at the fire chief and aid, "Chief, am I really a fireman now?"
