He conducted a modification of Sherif tudy, auming that when the ituation wa very clear, conformity would be dratically reduced. All participant except one were ecretly told to give the wrong anwer in 12 of the 18 trial. The reult howed a urpriingly high degree of conformity. 76% of the participant conformed on at leat one trial. On average people conformed one third of the time. However, in a reinterpretation of the original data from thee experiment Hodge and Geyer found that Ach ubject were not o conformit after all:

The experiment provide powerful evidence for people tendency to tell the truth even when other do not. They alo provide compelling evidence of people concern for other and their view.
