When young F. W. Woolworth wa a tore clerk, he tried to convince hi bo to have a ten-cent ale to reduce inventory. The bo agreed, and the idea wa a reounding ucce. Thi inpired Woolworth to open hi own tore and price item at a nickel and a dime. He needed capital for uch a venture, o he aked hi bo to upply the capital for part interet in the tore. Hi bo turned him down flat. “The idea i too riky,” he told Woolworth. “There are not enough item to ell for five and ten cent.” Woolworth went ahead without hi bo‘ back, and he not only wa ucceful in hi firt tore, but eventually he owned a chain of F.
