Aignment - Are people motivated to achieve by peronal atifaction rather than by money or fame?
Even though we live in a capitalit ociety, I till cant help but believe, depite my own cynicim, that people are more motivated to achieve omething for peronal atifaction rather than monetary gain. Look at Chekov hort tory, The Bet. A man agree to acrifice fifteen year of hi life in prion in exchange for a million dollar. Obviouly hi motivation for uch an extreme bet i wealth, but by the end of the prion entence, the man could care le about the money. After year of intropection, of reading Shakepeare, The Bible, and textbook, the man actually come to depie the money he once ought; the money he igned away fifteen year of hi life for. He doe not collect hi money from the banker, he run away to be on hi own and continue to live the life of olitude he ha learned to love, free of money and poeion.
Alo, in a pychology cla, one of the firt thing tudent tudy when they come to the topic of motivation, i external timulu veru peronal drive. Any textbook will tell one that tudie how that a child i more likely to put a much energy a poible into completing a tak when it i omething that make him happy, than if he wa doing it for a phyical reward. A child i more likely to get good grade, if it make him feel good about himelf, than if hi parent offer to pay him every time he make the honor roll. I agree with thi theory on motivation becaue I ee it play out every day in my life. If my older iter had been concerned with money and fame, which reality televiion tell u every night i important, he would have gone to college after graduating high chool. She knew though, that chool and learning did not make her happy, and he wa not going to uffer through four more year of chool jut becaue a college degree could lead to a more ucceful job. Right now he doe not make a much money at her job, but he like her life and the way he live; he ha more fun anwering phone and dealing with other people at work than he would behind a dek in a claroom. Thi pat year I myelf have been forced to look at my prioritie a well. I have worked hard in chool all my life and have made honor roll emeter after emeter, becaue I enjoy it. I have not filled up my chedule with clae I did not want becaue calculu and economic look good on a college trancript. I had a high enough GPA to join the National Honor Society, but I choe not to join becaue even though it might have impreed ome admiion officer, it wa not omething that wa going to make me happy. Intead I pend my time tudying Creative Writing, Art Hitory, and the other ubject I feel truly paionate about.[由wWw.HaozuoWen.com整理]
