When my oldet on wa in high chool, he planned to attend a Chritian contemporary concert with the youth group from our church. To my amazement, Aaron invited me to go along; he knew I enjoyed the muic of one of the performer. I readily accepted; however, by the time the date of the concert arrived, I had quetion about going. My younget on, who ha Down yndrome and progreive heart dieae, had been ill, and I wa concerned about him. My huband encouraged me to attend the concert, auring me he wa quite capable of taking care of our younget. I wavered.
Finally, it hit me. Aaron wa ixteen year old. How many opportunitie would I have to do omething fun with him before he went away to college? And how many youth actually invited their mother to attend a concert with them that wa clearly geared for teen? The deciion wa made. I would not mi thi opportunity.
At the concert, I at with Aaron and hi girlfriend in the third row, tuffing cotton in my ear to block out the loud, ear-plitting amplified muic of the firt performer. I tood when the kid tood, clapped when they clapped, and never let anyone know how nervou I wa to feel the floor vibrate beneath my feet. Aaron and hi friend were amued at my enthuiam.
By the time we left the concert, I wa certain my hearing wa damaged forever. My ear were ringing and ound eemed muffled, but it quickly paed. So did my on’ teenage year. In no time he wa in college and away from home. I mied him more than I could ay.
