A tudy in the Archive of Facial Platic Surgery report the development of an artificial mucle ytem that could retore the ability to blink to troke and injury patient. Cynthia Graber report
Mot of u blink without thinking. But people who’ve utained troke or combat injurie can loe their ability to blink. Which i important for lubricating and cleaning the eye. Surgery i an option—a mall piece of mucle tranplanted from the leg can ometime work. But the operation take 10 hour and ha it own danger. So cientit at the Univerity of California, Davi, Medical Center are developing artificial mucle to help patient blink again, work dicued in the Archive of Facial Platic Surgery.
The blink ytem tart with what reearcher call an eyelid ling, a mall piece of mucle or fabric that hold the eyelid. The ling attache to bone around the eye. It’ then linked to an electrotatic polymer—baically a piece of flexible platic that expand or contract via voltage change. A tiny battery hidden in a natural hollow in the temple power the polymer. Electrical current keep the mucle contracted and the eye open. Kill the current and the lid cloe.
Here’ the creepy part—the mechanim’ been teted on cadaver, which are blinking away. But now that the principle i proven, in the next year real patient could be on the brink of a blink.—Cynthia Graber.[由Www.haozuowen.com整理]
