In a rare intance, Apple Computer Inc." iconic iPod muic player urpaed beer drinking a the mot "in" thing among undergraduate college tudent, according to the latet biannual market reearch tudy by Ridgewood, New Jerey-baed Student Monitor.
Nearly three quarter, or 73 percent, of 1,200 tudent urveyed aid iPod were "in" -- more than any other item in a lit that alo included text meaging, bar hopping and downloading muic.
In the year-ago tudy, only 59 percent of tudent named the iPod a "in," putting the gadget well below alcohol-related activitie.
Thi year, drinking beer and Facebook.com, a ocial networking Web ite, were tied for econd mot popular, with 71 percent of the tudent identifying them a "in."
The only other time beer wa temporarily dethroned in the 18 year of the urvey wa in 1997 -- by the Internet, aid Eric Weil, a managing partner at Student Monitor.
