Thi fetival i in mid-ummer when the weather i warm and the gra and tree reveal their luxuriou green. At night when the ky i dotted with tar， and people can ee the Milky Way panning from the north to the outh. On each bank of it i a bright tar， which ee each other from afar. They are the Cowherd and Weaver Maid， and about them there i a beautiful love tory paed down from generation to generation.
Long， long ago， there wa an honet and kind-hearted fellow named Niu Lang (Cowhand)。 Hi parent died when he wa a child. Later he wa driven out of hi home by hi iter-in-law. So he lived by himelf herding cattle and farming. One day， a fairy from heaven Zhi Nu (Weaver Maid) fell in love with him and came down ecretly to earth and married him. The cowhand farmed in the field and the Weaver Maid wove at home. They lived a happy life and gave birth to a boy and a girl. Unfortunately， the God of Heaven oon found out the fact and ordered the Queen Mother of the Wetern Heaven to bring the Weaver Maid back.
With the help of celetial cattle， the Cowhand flew to heaven with hi on and daughter. At the time when he wa about to catch up with hi wife， the Queen Mother took off one of her gold hairpin and made a troke. One billowy river appeared in front of the Cowhand. The Cowhand and Weaver Maid were eparated on the two bank forever and could only feel their tear. Their loyalty to love touched magpie， o ten of thouand of magpie came to build a bridge for the Cowhand and Weaver Maid to meet each other.
