A number of factor can account for uch phenomenon, but the following might be the critical one. For one thing, the craze for learning Englih affect, to ome degree, tudent’ paion for the tudy of their native language. For another, the increaing emphai on ome o-called “practical ubject” cloely related to the puruit for job alo cut into tudent’ time and energy pent on the tudy of Chinee.
The problem mentioned above i bound to generate evere conequence if we keep turning a blind eye to it. Firt, tudent’ weakne in Chinee would lead to their ignorance of Chinee culture. Secondly, their problem with Chinee would alo hinder the tudy of other ubject.
In view of the erioune of the problem, effective meaure mut be taken before thing get wore. In the firt place, it i eential that the chool attach more importance to the teaching of Chinee. In the econd place, tudent hould enhance their awarene of the importance of matering their mother tongue.
