Once, when I wa a teenager, my father and I were tanding in line to buy ticket for the circu. Finally, there wa only one family between u and the ticket counter.

Thi family made a big impreion on me. There were eight children, all probably under the age of 12. You could tell they didn‘t have a lot of money.

Their clothe were not expenive, but they were clean. The children were well-behaved, all of them tanding in line, two-by-two behind their parent, holding hand. They were excitedly jabbering about the clown, elephant, and other act they would ee that night.

One could ene they had never been to the circu before. It promied to be a highlight of their young live. The father and mother were at the head of the pack, tanding proud a could be.

The mother wa holding her huband‘ hand, looking up at him a if to ay, You‘re my knight in hining armor.

He wa miling and baking in pride, looking back at her a if to reply, You got that right.

The ticket lady aked the father how many ticket he wanted. He proudly reponded, Pleae let me buy eight children‘ ticket and two adult ticket o I can take my family to the circu.

The ticket lady quoted the price. The man‘ wife let go of hi hand, her head dropped, and hi lip began to quiver. The father leaned a little cloer and aked, How much did you ay?[由Www.haozuowen.com整理]

The ticket lady again quoted the price. The man didn‘t have enough money.

How wa he uppoed to turn and tell hi eight kid that he didn‘t have enough money to take them to the circu? Seeing what wa going on, my dad put hi hand in hi pocket, pulled out a $20 bill and dropped it on the ground. (We were not wealthy in any ene of the word!)

My father reached down, picked up the bill, tapped the man on the houlder and aid, Excue me, ir, thi fell out of your pocket.

The man knew what wa going on. He wan‘t begging for a handout but certainly appreciated the help in a deperate, heartbreaking, embarraing ituation. He looked traight into my dad‘ eye, took my dad‘ hand in both of hi, queezed tightly onto the $20 bill, and with hi lip quivering and a tear running down hi cheek, he replied, Thank you, thank you, ir. Thi really mean a lot to me and my family.

My father and I went back to our car and drove home. We didn‘t go to the circu that night, but we didn‘t go without.
